Tigers Make Deadline Move, Washburn's A Tiger

The Detroit Tigers finally made a move and then made it with about five hours left before the trade deadline. Starting Pitcher Jarrod Washburn is now a Tiger. He's a very nice addition to the Tigers rotation and is also a lefty. Washburn has been having a great season posting a 8-6 record with a 2.64 ERA (3rd in AL) while giving up just 109 hits over 133 innings with 33 walks and 79 strikeouts.

The Tigers had to give up Luke French and Mauricio Robles. Overall I feel this was a very good deal. French has been decent starting for the Tigers and Robles has some promise but for the Tigers to get a very solid start I feel its a pretty cheap price. They didn't get Halladay but they got the next best pitcher left on the market.

Washburn will be around Detroit only for this season I believe. His agent is Scott Boras and we all know how he negotiates.

Great Deal for the Tigers, is this the last move for the Tigers, we'll find out soon. The trade deadline is 4 pm ET.

End of Dimitri Young's Carrer?

Well you really hate to see this but former Detroit Tiger, and one of my favorite Tigers (I even have the jersey to prove it) suffered a season ending and possibly career ending injury. He tore his left quadriceps muscle, is this is for DY in the majors?

He started the season on the disabled list and then was rehabbing with Harrisburg Senators while he tore his quad when running down to 1st base.

Teams were interested in DY this season but after this injury the talk seems to be this may be it for him.

It's always sad to see any player end his carrer on an injury, DY was a former Tiger's All-Star and most Tigers fan can remember that huge 3 HR opening day he had. There were also his share of downs as well that eventually led to his departure from the Tigers. Yet to me he will always be one of my favorite Tigers.

I really hope DY can make at least some sort of comeback to the majors.

Tigers Suffer National TV Loss to White Sox, 5-1

Well this game was bad from the beginning. When Rick Porcello start letting the men starting reaching base the 1st inning you could see if turning into a very long night. They ended up losing 5-1. On a side note Casey Fien pitched well for the Tigers in his major league debut. He was being pinched his 1st batter he faced but managed to come back into the count and make Paul Konerko pop out.

Also I don't like to do this but you have to throw OF Ryan Rayburn under the bus today. 2 Errors on one play. Not only did Rayburn miss the fly ball catch but then also booted it into the stands. Nice work

Overall great series with the Tigers as they take 3 of 4 and almost got the sweep. Go Get Em Tigers.

Milton Bradley to Detroit?

Well there have been a few stories popping up out there on the Tigers being interested in the Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley. Over at MLB Trade Rumors they have been tracking whats going on in the news on this supposed deal. Let me be the 1st to say this would be a terrible idea. For many reasons this would be a terrible situation for Detroit on many different levels. Let me point out three really fast.

1. Milton Bradley is being paid 9 Million Dollars this year. He was signed to a 3yr 30 million dollar deal this off season. Unless the Tigers want to go down the same road they traveled with Sheffield. (Note, Milton Bradley is no Gary Sheffield, Sheff is a much better player, and has more sense to him) Times are tough in the D, how will fans like it if they move in another high priced outfielder that hits .250.

2. Milton Bradley is crazy! Yes thats right crazy. Even Lou Pinella can't really handle the day to day antics of Mr. Bradley. He has been very well traveled in his career and there is a reason for that. Detroit please don't mess with any of the chemistry they have built back up from last season.

3. Marcus Thames, Clete Thomas, Josh Anderson and Oh Guillen's Back. Enough Said. Why would Detroit go out and grab another outfielder when he may not even produce. Milton Bradley reminds me of a Jacque Jones all over again. Please don't get him.

Carlos Guillien's Back, White Sox Vs Tigers, We Need These

The Tigers will take on the White Sox with both teams being tied while heading into todays game @ 1:05. It will be Justin Verlander vs Jose Contreras. Carlos Guillien will be back in today's line up and lets hope he will come back in mid season form. The Tigers could really use his bat epically after the back to back 2-1 loss games. Here is what the Tigers lineup will look like for todays game.

Granderson, CF
Polanco, 2B
Thomas, RF
Cabrera, 1B
Guillen, DH
Raburn, LF
Inge, 3B
Laird, C
Everett, S

It's very nice to see Carlos back in there. To make room for Carlos the Tigers designated Josh Anderson for assignment. Eddie Bonnie is also expected to be back up very soon.

1968 Detroit Tigers Memories With Ernie Harwell

Well its another loss, I'd rather not go to much into that. The pitching was there.

I just wanted to share this very well done video. I have found it on you tube. It has some great footage and audio of the 1968 Season. I wasn't even close to being born in 1968 so its things like this that can let you get a feel of Tigers history. Check it out. I will be back soon with a contest with a prize for the 1st and 2nd place winners.

Inge In Home Run Derby

The Detroit Tigers Third Basemen All-Star Brandon Inge was the last person voted onto the 2009 AL All-Star teams. He will also be in tonights Home Run Derby contest. Inge currently has 21 long balls this season and hope to live a life long childhood dream of being in the HR Derby. After last season people would be happy if Inge would hit just above the .230 mark and today he's an All-Star. Inge is also very choked up about being an All-Star as it was a childhood dream that has come true. This is just a great story and it couldn't have happened to a better person. Tonight lets root for Brandon Inge in the 2009 Home Run Derby.

Another thing for thought, could Brandon Inge be the AL All-Star key weapon late in the game if it becomes a long extra innings game? With Inge being able to play many positions I would think Joe Madden would just love to have Inge be the last one off the bench just in case he's needed. I would love to see Inge play more but he may be used in this role for tomorrow's All-Star Games.

As always your comments are welcome, and lets root on all of the 2009 Detroit Tigers All-Stars.

As of now there will be a grand prize for the best response I receive and I'm working on getting some other prizes for the 2nd, and 3rd best response. Here is your chance to get free Tigers related swag for just letting me know what you think. Anyways, just to make sure this is still a Tigers Blog and I have been taking note.
